Come and see, photograph and experience Iconic wildlife
in it’s true rightful place, the wild.
Only 4 hours from Johannesburg, Malaria free Madikwe forms part part of
the Greater Kalahari in the western half of of South Africa. This area is
drier than most areas and wonderful ambient images can be made with the golden sunsets, dust and red sands as a result. It is a big 5
area with frequent sightings of Wild Dog, Hyena etc.
We are exclusively taking over a stunning 5 star lodge for a week and and will
go out on 12 game drives.
Knowing how sourcing food can be a stressful chore we have arranged for the
lodge to be uniquely vegan for the week. The week is all inclusive including
food, drinks, activities and photographic tuition. We will also be running some
workshops and talks talks between drives but we also know that this is a
wonderful place place to relax and take the ambience in, so we will be very
conscious not to overdo things. The lodge has a wonderful atmosphere and
you can make yourselves at home. There is a very productive waterhole with
all types of wildlife using it and you could easily be having a cup of tea whilst
watching Elephants drink!
A potential itinerary;
Day 1: Transfer from your Joberg hotel or OR Tambo airport to Madikwe, approx 4 hours journey. *Please note* transport is only
arranged for this day any other times are at your cost.
After a freshen up and a spot of lunch we will go out on a relaxed game
drive to liven the senses and kick into safari mode. If you haven’t been
on a safari before you will be open mouthed. After, dinner will be served
Day 2 to 6: The rhythm of the week starts right here:
After waking up to a Coffee and rusk (South African hard biscuit, that
works incredibly well as a ‘dunker’ and is addictive!) we will board the
cruiser and go out on our first early morning game drive. Now getting up
at 4.30 may sound a rude awakening but I can assure you it will be a
pleasure and of course from a photographers point of the view the light is
breathtaking and must be used. As this week is photography led we will
have complete flexibility and will decide on our focus in the field
depending on sightings, conditions and requests.
Breakfast will be served on our return and after a freshen up a little lunch will be served. There is chance for a Q & A, discussions of
goals, technique etc and a little help with downloading and processing.
We will head out for our afternoon game drive and again things are flexible and will very much decide on targets and previous sightings.
The drive dissolves into a fantastic night drive with all the sights, sounds and smells you imagine.
Dinner is served around an open fire overlooking the waterhole. We will run through your targets, images and any questions before
turning in ready for the morning.
Day 7: A leisurely morning or a possible optional game drive followed by our last breakfast at the lodge. Departure at 11am.
